What’s the best way for cleaning a rug?

on September 3, 2010

How does it differ from cleaning a carpet, if there are any?

Depends on the fiber in the rug and how big it is. If it is a wool or wool blend it needs to be handled by a professional. If it is a synthetic blend and small you should be able to wash it in a machine on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent. If it is larger steam cleaning would be best.

hmmmmmm………I thought a rug WAS a carpet. If it’s a small rug, you can clean it yourself with rug cleaner that you buy in a gocery store. If it’s a larger rug, rent a scrubber and do it yourself with the recommended product or hire a company.

Onion. Either juice it, or simply cut one in half and rub over dirty rug. The acids in the onions will absorb the dirt, and just run water over the rug/carpet afterwards, and it will run right off. I was told red onions work the best and tend to be the most moist.
