Can I make Rug Doctor cleaning solution? What can I add to kill fleas?

June 9th, 2010

I’m renting a Rug Doctor later today. There was a mention somewhere about making your own cleaning solution instead of buying it from the store. What would I use to make it?

Also, is there something I can add to kill fleas in the carpet? Or is deep cleaning the rug good enough?

I would buy their solution because they have something in theirs to keep it from being too sudsy. This is what I would do. I would go to WalMart or somewhere and get some of those flea bombs and put them in my house right before I am to clean my carpet. That way you will have the whole house done and then you can clean the carpet. But remember that you may need to do the fleas two times because the eggs will not be killed and will hatch out later. So take that into account.

Good luck. Oh and for the best smell ever go to your local Sam’s Club and buy a jug of OdaBan and spray some around in your house. It smells great!!!! : )

How soon after Steam Cleaning should you put furniture back in it’s place?

June 1st, 2010

How soon after Steam Cleaning should you put furniture back in it’s place? The floor doesn’t feel very wet at all, just a teeeeeny bit damp, so we were wondering when we should set the chairs and bookshelf back into place.

Do you mean carpet?? The carpet should be quite dry but most people just put something under the furniture legs for a day until the carpet is totally dry and then lift the furniture just enough to pull out the barrier.

Drying time varies with type of carpet and atmospheric humidity. If you have a fan, turn it on to blow over the carpet to speed dry. You should n’t be walking on a damp carpet either. Can you hold off until tomorrow? Otherwise, use little protectors….aluminium foil for example under the furniture legs.

Are carpet steam cleaners any good and which one should I get?

June 27th, 2010

I’m moving out on my own and I want to do a thorough carpet cleaning of the new apartment before I move in. I really don’t want a cleaner with too many bags and one that makes you buy expensive cleaning things all the time.

Rent a Rug Dr. That’s the name of it. I have bought my own cleaner and within 3 months the thing didn’t work. It cost me 250 bucks and now it’s worthless. I could have rented a Rug Dr. quiet a few times with that money and saved myself the aggravation. But honestly most apartments are steam cleaned before they are moved into anyway. It’s also possible to carpet may be new depending on the circumstances with the previous tenants.

The Rug Dr. is pretty contained and from what I can remember doesn’t have a crazy amount of hoses and bags

can anyone recommend a great steam cleaner with a small attachment for cleaning car upholstery?

June 23rd, 2010

i have been to a vacuum shop and mr caldwell says there are really no quality upright cleaners in his mind out there. once they establish themselves they go plastic on everything to watch costs. are there any out there of good or great quality that have small attachments for upholstery cleaning especially? thanks for your input

Bissell’s Little Green Clean Machine. I don’t personally own one, but two of my friends absolutely love it. They say it is great for car upholstery. I’m looking forward to getting one myself. You may even to be able to use it for bathroom shower enclosures too.

Why does my carpet always look filthy less than a week after I shampoo it?

July 16th, 2010

I have a Bissell steam cleaner and use quality carpet shampoo. I also pre-treat. It looks clean right after shampooing, but within a week or so, it looks worse and worse! I have Dupont Stainmaster carpet – top of the line stuff.

This carpet is less than one year old.

I have to say that I have read all the "answers" that ppl have left and Edward I is the one you should listen to. It is not that you’re not getting the dirt out, but that you are leaving too much residue in the carpet, and that will attract new soil like a magnet.
Rinse the carpet with a VERY MILD mixture of water and viniger(maybe 1:100 ratio). Once you get all the soap residue out of the carpet, it will stay cleaner longer.

How do I remove pomegranite juice from my carpet???!!!

Try some spot shot cleaner…

how do I get pet stains from my carpet?

September 3rd, 2010

She had very strong yellow urine, which really stains. And carpet stain removers don’t work.

Vinegar and water. Works like a charm.

Use a small amount of vinegar (few tablespoons) in warm water. Dab the mixture onto the spot, make sure it gets very wet. Put a towel on the spot with a weight and let the towel soak it up.

The towel should be 100% cotton and absorbent.

how do you remove dog faeces stain (now dried in) from a wool carpet? Can you use bleach?

September 3rd, 2010

I’ve tried detergent, stain remover and vanish but dark brown stain still there. Professional carpet cleaners want to do whole carpet (£250) but it’s still quite new

Hopefully the following recipe works for you-
How to Remove Pet Stains From:
Carpet (synthetic or wool)

After removing solids, apply either Spot Shot Carpet Stain Remover, Stain-X Carpet Stain Remover, or Up & Out (do not use Up & Out on wool). Be sure to follow the label directions for special instructions and any precautions.

An alternate method is to scrape to remove the solids, being careful not to push stain into pile.

Sponge the area with a solution of 1 teaspoon mild non-alkali detergent and 1 pint lukewarm water.

Blot the stain with an absorbent pad.
Continue the sponging and blotting until no more stain is removed. If any stain persists, sponge the area with a solution of 1 tablespoon ammonia to 1 cup warm water. (Do not use ammonia on wool carpet.)

Blot excess liquid, and continue treatment until no more stain is removed. Place an absorbent pad over the damp area and weight it down. When no more liquid is absorbed, remove the pad and allow area to thoroughly air dry.

Whats good for cleaning upholstery seats in car?

September 3rd, 2010

I have some stains in the upholstery and I want to get em out.

Before trying to remove any stains it’s always good to know what
type of stain it is or may "set" the stain by using the wrong sort
of stain remover.
An upholstery shop should be able to help you determine what the stains are if you’re not certain.

What is the best steam floor cleaners? Specifically one for carpet and other floor types.?

September 3rd, 2010

My mom is thinking about getting the h2o mop but there are so many negative reviews for it. What is the best steam floor cleaner?

I bought the h2o and I don’t like it. It leaves puddles and takes a long time to dry. My Niece bought the Bissell and loves it. I think her’s was a lot cheaper too. I would trade mine in a heartbeat for the Bissell one!

Hope this helps! Good Luck!

What is the best cleaner for linoleum floors? Steam cleaner? Cleaning product? or a Brand of an appliance?

September 3rd, 2010

I purchased a bissell flipit and a hoover floormate. Neither did anything for my linoleum floors. I have the floors with all thecracks and crevices. I want to find either another Appliance brand, cleaning solution, or can someone recommend a good steam cleaner and tell me if I should just go with the steamer all together and forget the hard floor cleaning products.

I use Mr Clean and it really works for me…I have a hoover steam cleaner. This is my 2nd steam cleaner. I use resolve in mine and it does a terrific job…and so does the Mr Clean on my linoleum floor. I would just go with the Hoover Steam Cleaner all together and I believe you will be happy! forget all the hardwood floor cleaners…Best of Luck to you on your floors…

What’s the best way for cleaning a rug?

September 3rd, 2010

How does it differ from cleaning a carpet, if there are any?

Depends on the fiber in the rug and how big it is. If it is a wool or wool blend it needs to be handled by a professional. If it is a synthetic blend and small you should be able to wash it in a machine on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent. If it is larger steam cleaning would be best.

What other cleaners can I use on my carpet steamer?

September 3rd, 2010

CAn I use any other kind of cleaning salution on my Bissel steamer? Carpet cleaners are 2 expensive

I agree! I use Simple Green to shampoo my carpets with. 1. Because it works great. 2. It’s much cheaper. 3. It’s non-toxic and biodegradable to boot. 4. It smells good!

Simple Green is a concentrated cleaner you can get in automotive, hardware, grocery and discount stores. I get mine at Sam’s Club; a gallon is less than $10. and will make like 64 gallons of all purpose cleaner. I use it for a lot of things not only carpet cleaning. It’s wonderful on grease, takes grease/oil spots out of clothing, including that black icky axle grease. Does not bleach or remove the color either.

Because it is so concentrated, you need to dilute it down with water. If you visit the website; there is a chart available that tells you how much to dilute the product down depending on what you’re cleaning. The only thing I have tried it on and didn’t like it for was windows; left a haze. But it took the greasy stuff of from the gas grill being below the window. A quick wipe with some white vinegar & water took care of the haze.

I take a spray bottle and mix some of the product for general cleaning and pre-treat any nasty areas on the carpet with that and allow the product to work awhile before shampooing. If you get into a foaming issue in the recovery tank, just put a tablespoon or two of white vinegar in the recovery tank before you start using the machine. And do take the time to rinse the shampooed carpet with just plain water; it will stay clean longer.

Don’t use baking soda; it doesn’t fully dissolve and will plug up your nozzles and little tiny hoses. I got a great deal on a nearly new Little Green Clean Machine because that’s what the lady had used. She had it plugged up big time. A long soak with some hot, full strength white vinegar (we’re talking a couple days) took care of the issue. I knew it would work; just didn’t know how long it was gonna take…….

If pet odors are an issue, there is another product that works well. It’s called Odo ban and is sold either at Walmart or Sam’s Club. It’s plant based but is really strong smelling. Part of the problem is it is really concentrated. If I have a pet accident happen I take some of the Odo ban mixed according to the label, soak the area with it, let it lay 10-30 minutes for the enzymes in the product to do their work and then shampoo the area with plain water. It works and is a lot less expensive than the special pet products. Also is disinfecting and all that.
